Camping Stoves

...for Quicker, Cleaner Camp Cooking

Camping stoves bring a bit of modern civilization and comfort to the art of camp cooking.

While cooking at an outdoor fireplace is an enjoyable experience once you've gotten the knack of it, there's nothing to beat decent camping stoves for cooking quickly without the need for blackened pots and utensils from a wood fire.

One of the most popular types of portable camping stoves is the propane camping stove, because it lights with the minimum of fuss and preparation, and has a clean flame. Before you make up your mind, though, do check out several types.

The most popular type of gas cooker for car camping and in caravans or trailers is the two-burner camping stove, but your mileage may vary.

For backpackers, there are small multi-fuel camping stoves which can handle just about any liquid fuel, white gasoline, kerosene or even alcohol.

My personal preference in camping stoves is alcohol stoves, because you can buy a bottle of methylated spirits anywhere. The fuel is called "rubbing alcohol" in pharmacies, and you'll find it in the Paint Thinner section in hardware stores as 'denatured alcohol'.

The Trangia brand of alcohol camping stoves from Europe has a great line of stoves and integrated cook kits which are great for backpacking, mountaineering or minimalist camping.
