Camp
Furniture
Its what changes
roughing it into enjoying it!
Camp furniture puts the civilization back
into your day, whether you're out in the wilds somewhere, in a
campsite or an RV camp ground.
Unless you're backpacking, or travelling super-light, you're
going to want some camp furniture, even if it's just a stool to
sit on while you're taking a break.
It's camp furniture that makes you more comfortable when you're
camping. You can relax on a folding camp chair, and it's good
to have a table to eat your meals off, or for preparing
food.
As long as you've got some space in your vehicle, you can take
some camp furniture. For me, the bare minimum amount of camp
furniture would be a couple of folding picnic chairs and a
collapsible table.
But if you've a larger vehicle or a trailer, you'll have room
for more camp furniture. You might want to take along a folding
portable kitchen table, like the one from Coleman. It even
includes a tiny plastic sink for preparing your vegetables and
washing the dishes and pots when the meal's over.
Another important item of camp furniture is your camp cooler,
refrigerator or insulated ice chest. The most basic type is the
insulated ice chest. Just throw in a pack of party ice from the
gas station, and your food will stay cool for the day. Just
pour out melted ice each day and buy fresh ice. And for those
with more serious camp refrigeration needs, there are several
portable fridges or fridge/freezers. The best ones are gas or
mains powered, and some do 12v power from your vehicle as
well.
Young people can do without much camp furniture and sleep on a
small foam mat or an air mattress, but those of us with greater
years (and heavier bodies) much prefer a camp cot or camp bed.
I have found that women seem to hate sleeping on the floor,
even on an air bed. Perhaps they are just too sensible to put
up with "roughing it". So to keep them happy, as we must, you
can use a double or queen-size air mattress, with a foot or
electric pump.
The ultimate camp furniture would seem to be the new folding
camp beds, in double or queen-size. These have an air mattress
plus an array of multiple legs underneath to give you the same
height off the floor that you'd have at home, and the same
size. Of course, you'll need a pretty large tent for that,
too.
